Design and access statement
At The Grove Cromer, we are committed to ensuring that all guests, regardless of ability, background, or identity, feel welcome, valued, and able to enjoy our facilities to the fullest. We strive to create an inclusive environment where accessibility is a priority, not an afterthought.
The Grove is a hotel and restaurant situated to the east of Cromer in 3.5 acres of gardens. The Grove has been open to the public since 1936 and has been providing holidays to visitors to the area ever since. In 2011, The Grove opened as a restaurant serving quality, locally sourced food and drink and has been awarded two rosettes by the AA for standards of excellence. The Grove also serves as a wedding venue and hosts small weddings for up to 30 people and larger weddings in Sundown to the north of the building. In 2015, The Grove Glamping was started offering glamping holidays in five yurts in the north-east corner of the gardens, on an area of the garden that has always been used for camping for friends and family.

Accessible stays
The Grove offers accessible stays in one of our self-catering cottages and one of our Orchard Rooms. The Bungalow has purpose built patio with a very low step and ramp. It also has a large walk in shower with no step up. Victoria, one of our Orchard Rooms, has a fully adapted bathroom with walk-in shower/bath and is single storey. Both Sundown and The Garden Rooms are accessible to wheelchair users. However, The Grove is a grade two listed building and, as such, has no accessible bedrooms in the main house, however, the public rooms are all wheelchair friendly. The bedrooms in the main house are on variety of floors, ranging from 9 steps from the ground floor to 25 steps.
The Barn, Stable, Coach House and Cottage all have bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs.
Mrs Page’s Cottages has two steps up to the front door, and the back door is ground level. There is a small step between the living room and the hallway, with a ramp to make this easily accessible for wheelchair users.
Sundown is on one level and is specifically designed to accommodate customers who struggled with steps.
The Grove offers two blue badge parking bays as close to the main door as possible.
Just ask
At The Grove, we have a “just ask” policy, where we go out of our way to accommodate our guests in every way possible, including offering quiet tables and private dining or room service and early check-ins or late check-outs to avoid busy situations when possible and also tailoring menus to guests’ needs. Large print menus are also available on request.
Inclusivity
Diversity is at the heart of our community. We welcome people of all ages, genders, sexual orientations, ethnicities, religions, and abilities. Our staff work hard to always foster a respectful and supportive atmosphere. We aim to accommodate dietary preferences, cultural needs, and sensory sensitivities to ensure everyone feels at ease.
Ongoing Commitment
We acknowledge that accessibility and inclusivity require continuous effort. We actively seek feedback from guests and disability advocates to identify areas for improvement. Our website and communications are designed with readability and assistive technologies in mind.
If guests have suggestions or need assistance planning a visit, they are encouraged to just ask – we’re here to help.

Homegrown & Local Produce
Our fruit and vegetable garden supplies fresh, organic ingredients for our kitchen, reducing food miles to zero and promoting seasonal, nutrient-rich meals, which are so fresh you can see them growing. Our on-site composting programme means we reuse coffee grounds, tea leaves and vegetable scraps. We partner with Norfolk farmers, fishermen, and artisan producers to support the local economy while offering guests the finest regional flavours. From the world-famous Cromer crab to heritage vegetables, every dish tells a story of sustainability.
As well as carefully tendered gardens, The Grove also has areas of our grounds which we keep wild and this in appreciated by the local wildlife, including muntjac, pheasant, red-legged partridges, woodcocks, red snipes as well as the more commonly appreciated species of birds and animals. We’ve even been visited by the local perigrins.
Renewable Energy & Low-Impact Operations
We harness air-source heat pumps to efficiently warm our swimming pool, drastically reducing fossil fuel reliance. Combined with LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, and waste reduction initiatives, we minimise our carbon footprint whenever possible.
Electric vehicle charging
The Grove has a total of four electric vehicle charging points for our guests to use. These can be pre-booked or you can just turn up and plug in.
Cycling in Norfolk
We are proud offer cyclists safe lockable bike racks, and even a specialised tools if you need an emergency repair.
Community & Ecosystem Stewardship
We actively engage in habitat restoration, from pollinator-friendly planting to coastal conservation efforts. By choosing eco-friendly cleaning products and minimising single-use plastics, we help protect Norfolk’s delicate ecosystems.
A Stay That Gives Back
When you visit The Grove, you’re not just enjoying a getaway—you’re supporting a regenerative model that nourishes the land, uplifts local suppliers, and preserves Norfolk’s natural beauty for future generations.
