Christmas has always been a special time at the Grove, not least because it was Boxing Day 1936 that the incumbent patriarch, John Graveling, made his way kicking and screaming into the world via the confortable surroundings of what is now the lounge. Quite a present for Robert and Hilda and their three daughters. Now nearing his ‘ahem’ ..th birthday, John is still very much on the payroll in his capacity as Honorary Estate Manager and generally keeping an eye on his children to make sure the Grove is running smoothly.

Since we have opened all year round we have enjoyed some great parties here over the festive period, and although we’re giving the staff a well-deserved break from last orders on 23rd December, we would love to see you all for your Christmas meal or outing. We have private dining available for up to 35 people, a superb menu from Mike West, a great wine list and mulled wine or prosecco on arrival to get you in the mood.

If you’re really lucky John may be around to regale you with stories of past Christmases… just try to avoid the details of 1936…
